Navigare Yachting Sailing School in Croatia offers structured sailing courses, developed by IYT – International Yacht Training Organization. IYT certificates are accepted worldwide and will allow you to rent a boat on your own upon successful completion of the course.
The 2-week sailing course is held along the coast of Mediterranean with the starting point in Croatia, Seget Donji (Split area). All of our sailing instructors are highly professional and experienced skippers. The boats used for the course are new, comfortable and modern.
By the completion of the course, you will receive an international license Bareboat Skipper Sail, issued by International Yacht Training Worldwide (IYT).
Obtaining this certificate automatically qualifies for an International Certificate of Competency (ICC). Navigare Sailing school combines the learning of sailing with the sailing itself for 14 days total! We believe that theoretical knowledge is best perceived together with the practice.

I was really happy that I have chosen your school, because everything was on a high level ! Both instructors were very knowledgeable and possessed strong English and they did not mind to answer all my countless questions. I was able to learn a lot small tricks and tips which hard to find in books. Probably next season one or more persons will apply to your school with my recommendation.
I was very happy with the whole experience. Allowing 2 weeks to cover everything is the ideal amount of time needed to learn and pass the exams. Also the two instructors were excellent. I also think the course was good value but would have preferred if it was held earlier so at least you would be guaranteed better weather. Overall I would definitely recommend it to others.
Zlatkos professional attitude, experience and high sense of responsibility leaves his students with a very well structured knowledge and sailing confidence.

The starting day of the school is usually Saturday. Everyone is arriving at Seget Donji, getting accommodated on the yachts and getting acquainted with the other members of the group. In the evening, you are free to either go for a walk and buy some souvenirs, have a dinner out in the restaurant or cook one on the yacht. In a word, you are resting from a trip and adjusting to the climate.
On Sunday morning you will get to know the yacht itself: water system, toilet, what may and may not be done on board, get to know the safety rules, internal space of the boat and our route for 2 weeks.
Then your team will go to the store together with the instructor and do the grocery shopping. After filling in the fridge and having enough drinking water, you will be ready to start your sailing adventure. During the two weeks, your instructor will teach you the rules of sailing and everyone will start speaking the same language!
The first sailing day will not be hard, everyone will try maneuvering the yacht to get the feeling how, why and which direction the boat is moving. The day starts before 8:00. Everyone will get enough time to wake up, do the personal hygiene and get ready for the day. At 09.00 you will have breakfast and start sailing! You may also get up earlier and have a walk at the closest coast, swim or do any other morning exercise. This will only add up to your levels of energy and set the mood for a day.
2 hours of theory and you will be ready to sail again, putting the new knowledge into practice! Daily, each member of the group will have his own time to practice all the tasks and to try him-/her-self in the role of skipper by giving tasks and orders on their own and managing the crew.
We will return to a new bay by the sunset and everything will repeat itself day after day for 2 weeks, but every day with new information and new places to explore.
At the end of two weeks, after successful completion of the course, you will finally receive your awaited Bareboat Skipper License and the whole new world will be open in front of you!
Each student of Navigare Sailing School will be able to come back to us and receive additional practice or rent a bareboat at a special “Sailing School Student” price!
We have chosen a couple of newer greatly maintained boats from our fleet. Both types are one the most popular in bareboat charters industry.
All the IYT Certificates have an expiration date according to the international standards and have to be renewed every 5 years. After you have completed the course, we will ask you to register at the IYT website and you will receive your unique code number. Upon 5 years, you would have to update your personal information on the website and order a new certificate, which will arrive at your home address. The price of certificate renewal may vary slightly but currently amounts to around 75 USD, including delivery.
You can order a transfer to the marina while confirming your participation in the school. In that case, you will be picked up at the airport arrival terminal and taken directly to your boat. Once you arrive, please contact the Navigare office and the staff there will help you. Should you arrive the day before, we will advise you some hotels in the surrounding area or, in case we have available boats, you will have a choice of sleeping on board for the extra price of 25 EUR/person per night.
Currently, all our courses are held in English language, including the sea terminology. However, there is a possibility to request a course in Russian or Croatian language, in case the group formed prefers one or the other.
Try to keep it as simple as possible. The list may change according to the season. For the hot season period (till 15 Sept) the following list will be enough:
– Personal hygiene products
– Personal first-aid kit and sunblock cream
– Sailing gloves
– Non-slip shoes or boots
– Windbreaker jacket with a hood
– Fleece jacket
– Light t-shirt short sleeved and long sleeved
– Shorts, swimsuits
– Flip flops However, even at warm destinations the open sea can get rough.
We advise to add the following items in case the weather conditions are colder:
– Thermal underwear

We recommend you to pack in soft bags since it is much easier to stow away.
Please note that the boat is equipped with life jackets, 2 towels per person, bed linen and dinghy.
The test for obtaining the IYT Bareboat Skipper Sail is divided into the theoretical and practical part
The theory consists of 50 questions which you have to answer in written form. All the questions are based on the knowledge which you have obtained during the course itself. Each question is valued from 1 to 5. The minimum passing number is 75 total.
During the Practical test, your sailing skills will be assessed. You will need to prove yourself as capable of managing the boat as a skipper by taking the whole responsibility and managing your crew. Mistakes of your crew members are your mistakes. In addition, you will have to execute all the additional orders given by your instructor. No mistakes will be accepted during this part of the test, except for the minor mistakes in setting off the sails.
Please be aware that upon receiving the Bareboat Skipper Certificate you are taking the responsibility for the other people’s lives on board.
After your place in the Sailing School is confirmed and the deposit is settled, you may request your Course notes to be sent via e-mail. Please contact your school administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our program includes all the expenses except your flights or transfers by car and nourishing. Breakfast and lunch are usually cooked on board, dinners are either eaten our in the closest restaurants or cooked on board as well, upon agreement. Please note that such things as soups and meat dishes are not practical to cook while sailing. Therefore, the main menu consists of eggs, salads, cheeses, fruits, mueslis and yogurts.
Usually, the expense for food per person does not exceed 25 Euro per day. All the additional expenses depend on your own shopping habits and number of souvenirs you are planning to buy.
