FAQ

GENERALLY

You can either rent a boat with or without a skipper. To be able to navigate a boat, you need a licence. If you don’t have a licence, you can only be a member of the crew. A skipper is a person responsible for a boat so we strongly advise you to hire Navigare’s own skipper and have a worry-free holiday.

Greece: Two driver’s licences – one regular boat licence plus one signed sailing resume
Croatia: A driver’s licence and a VHF Licence
Turkey: A driver’s licence
The skippers your hire from us have completed our Charter School and have navigation licenses and experience.

The season in the Mediterranean lasts from April to mid-November, with the peak season being June to August. Prices vary depending on the date you choose and are more expensive if closer to the peak season. May and September are great months for those who want some peace and quiet in the ports as air and water temperatures are favourable and there aren’t many crowds.
You can rent a boat for as long as you want, a week, two weeks or more, and sailing charters usually begin and end on Saturdays. We are also flexible and can enable you to sail for 10 days if that would be more convenient for you.
The peak season for sailing in Sweden is from June till the end of August. The best thing about sailing in Sweden in June and July are long days with only a few hours of darkness.
The most popular time to go sailing in Thailand is from mid-November to March. The weather is the most favourable then, but it is also the most crowded time. You can expect fewer crowds and much lower prices in the monsoon season from May to the end of October.
The British Virgin Islands are a great sailing destination all year around except in the hurricane season which officially lasts from June to September, with August being the most likely month for hurricanes.
During the whole season in Croatia and Turkey, a number of boats are available for departure any day of the week. (minimum 3 days)

We have our own fleets in Greece (Lavrion), Croatia (Split, Trogir), Turkey (Gocek), Thailand (Phuket), BVI (Tortola) and Sweden (Gåshaga). We can also arrange you a boat in the rest of the world, and we have extensive experience in the Caribbean, Thailand, Italy and France. We use only carefully selected, reputable suppliers that and take care of all the practical things before you sail. As long as there is a boat for hire – we can find it for you!

Yes! You can subscribe to one of our joint trips where you rent a place on a board. For more information about this offer, contact: booking@navigare-yachting.com.
On a so-called cabin charter, you pay for your berth in a double cabin for a week or two. Our experienced skippers and hostesses will be on board and you will follow a scheduled route. The advantage is that you do not need to have any previous sailing experience. This is a wonderful way to meet new friends and have an amazing time!

Plan and do your grocery shopping before you set off. The boats are equipped with a fully functioning kitchen. If you have a crew with you, don’t forget to include them, you should provide meals for your skipper and hostess. If you have a host/hostess on board he/she will do the planning and shopping in consultation with you. Make sure you have enough water on board.
Packing.
Try to keep it as simple as possible. Shorts, bathing suits, T-shirts and dresses, at some destinations a warmer sweater for the evening is necessary. You should also remember to bring a windbreaker and non-slip shoes, even at warm destinations the open sea can get rough. We recommend you to pack in soft bags since it is much easier to stow away.
Remember to bring your booking confirmation and original skippers license.
The boat is equipped with life jackets, 2 towels per person, bed linen and dinghy.

Direct crossing over to Italy is not permitted anymore. Your clients may go to Montenegro, Slovenia or Italy, but they may not sail more than 12 NM from the coastline. Clients are required to do customs formalities upon exiting and entering Croatian territorial waters. These procedures might include some entry fees. These fees may vary. At this time, we don’t have reliable information regarding the fee amount.
We do have one boat “Beneteau Oceanis 50F – LOWA” which has a permit to do the crossing and go directly to Italy.
Permit for international waters (up to 12NM from the coast, no direct crossing allowed)
240 EUR for up to two weeks charter
310 EUR for three weeks charter
370 EUR for four or more weeks charter

BOOKING PROCESS

Book on time! You will automatically receive a discount if you book 6 months or more before departure. We also reward our loyal customers with extra discounts and often have special prices in connection with boat shows.
Feel free to contact us on email booking@navigare-yachting.com and we will get back to you with our quote ASAP!

Once you receive a quote, ask about getting a preliminary reservation. This reservation lasts for a week and it is not binding. If you do not confirm it in one week, it expires automatically and your boat becomes available to other customers.

It is easier to arrange this outside the high season, but your dates must fit into the schedule. We try to be as flexible as possible and enable you fewer or more days. Contact us for more information

On the booking confirmation we send you, you will find the invoice with the bank account number. 50% of the vessel price needs to be paid within 7 days and the remaining balance is due 40 days before departure (we also recommend that you take a cancellation insurance). Exact dates are stated on the invoice. If you miss payment dates, we will first contact you, so no cancellation is done automatically. Please check your booking confirmation and all details to make sure they are correct. Bear in mind that you will need to cover port charges and vessel operating costs (water / diesel) and, in a case of Croatia, pay tourist tax in Croatia in the amount of €1 day.) If you wish to pay by credit card, you will find the form here.

When making a booking, we will ask you to send us your name, address, date and time of arrival for all travellers and to fill in the crew list form. This information must be received no later than 14 days before departure and if not received, we will contact you. We need this information so we can allow you to rent the boat. You also need to submit information about the skipper’s sailing licence if you are not hiring our skipper.
If you need a transfer, you also need to enter that here.

When requesting a 10-day charter, clients need to be aware of the fact that it ‘’breaks’’ two weeks of a possible charter. In order to accommodate clients’ wishes, the following calculation is in order: Weekly charter price will be divided by 7 and multiplied by 10, +5% surcharge. In a case of a 10-day charter, no discount is applicable! 10-day charter is available on request with price calculation:
(Weekly charter price / divided by 7 / multiplied by 10) +5% surcharge.
Applicable on all boats except: Sun Odyssey 509 ”Hanna” (2014), Oceanis 54 ”Hedvig” & ”Nymphea” (2009), Sun Odyssey 49i ”Anna” & ”Marguerite” (2008/09), Hanse 540 ”Lina II” (2008), Sun Odyssey 49 DS ”Volante” (2010), Oceanis Clipper 473 ”Marco Polo” (2004) and Sun Odyssey 49i ”Anna-T” (2007) which can go for any number of days and start any day of the week.

The weekend charter option (including Sunday) is available only very early in the season or very late in the season. This is the calculation: charter price divided by 7 and multiplied by a number of desired days.
No discount whatsoever is applicable in this case, regardless of the number of boats which would be chartered or the fact that the option or booking was made online. Weekend charters in other periods are available only as a 10-day charter.

In this case, we can offer a weekly price with a corresponding discount. We can offer a lower price in the preseason and lower price in the season for the chosen boats.

ABOUT THE BASE

You can order a transfer to the marina while making your booking or in your booking zone. In that case, you will be picked up at the airport arrival terminal and taken directly to your boat. Once you arrive, please contact the office and the staff there who will help you. Should you arrive after 7 pm at night, we will leave the boat unlocked for you and leave you a notice on the office door. The check-in will be done the following morning. You will find contact information for your home port / base in your reservation confirmation, or if you contact booking@navigare-yachting.com in case you booked a boat from one of our partner companies.

Yes, for the so-called oneway-fee , you can take the boat from one port and deliver it to another. This way you can sail long distance and avoid sailing into the same ports on the way back. Some of our popular one-way routes include Trogir-Dubrovnik in Croatia, Lavrion-Rhodes in Greece or Gocek-Bodrum in Turkey. Contact us and we will send you a quote.

Typically, the boat is ready for check-in after 17:00. If the boat is ready before, you can do the check-in earlier than scheduled. Expect the check-in to last from 60-90 minutes.
If you would like an early check-in, we recommend buying the Navigares VIP Pack. It includes priority check-in (guaranteed from 13:00), exclusive reception and drinks on board. This will give you almost one more sailing day.

Check-in of the boat is performed by the skipper +1 crew member and someone from the base personnel.
They inspect the boat from keel to mast and check to ensure that all equipment is in place and functioning properly. At check-in, you will also receive instructions on important fuses and operation of the specific model, and will be given instructions about the use of toilet, septic tank and LPG. If you have some unclear issues, please ask additional questions! If you detect any malfunctions – just call our service! Once you sign the takeover, note down any damage so you don’t have to explain it at check out. At check-out you will go through the boat again, and if any damage occurred or you lost any equipment, you will pay for it from your deposit.

It is always the skipper who has full responsibility for the boat, therefore we recommend taking skipper insurance. If you hire Navigare’s own professional skipper, he will be responsible for all damages on board. In case any damage occurs as a consequence of your gross negligence, you will need to discuss damage costs with base managers at check-out at our office.

The boat should be returned to the harbour the night before check out (usually Friday night). Check-out can already be done on Friday night as long as there is light or on Saturday morning. Obviously, you will have full access to the boat until 09:00 am the next morning (usually Saturday).

Good news for those who are used to going on a camping holiday! No, you do not have to clean the boat before you leave! However, the boat should be left in the same condition as you found it, i.e., dishes need to be put away, kitchen equipment needs to be returned to its place, sheets / towels folded… Make sure to double check the locker so you do not forget personal belongings! We hope you had a wonderful holiday with us and we are looking forward to seeing you again!
